In order to become a firefighter, you need to be at least 18 years of age, as well as have a high school diploma.

You will be given a medical exam, a rigorous test of physical strength and stamina and a drug test. All of these need to be passed in order to become a firefighter.

Because a large amount of calls made to the fire department are medically related, you are required to take basics in CPR, as well as any other available medical procedure training. Your physical condition has to be exemplary as a firefighters work is very demanding.

Go to your local Fire department and ask get all the required information about the firefighting exams, as you will need to apply to take the them.

You will need to complete the training program of your local fire department. The training is usually a four month program
that covers:


 1. Classroom Instructions
 2. Practical Training that covers:
     
     - Fire Prevention
     - Fire Fighting Techniques
     - Emergency Medical Procedures
     - Hazardous Materials


Your departments probationary employment will then need to be completed successfully. They usually last up to 6 months.

Once you have completed all of the above successfully, you may be on your way to become your local town's hero !
