What is an Auditor:

An Auditors job is to review a companies financial records which include receipts, purchased orders and taxes. They check all financial statements and make sure that all the information is correct and accurate, and also complies with law.

How to become an Non Certified Auditor:

1. High School Classes: In order to become an Auditor, it is important that you take accounting and algebra classes while you are in high school, as the math skills in these are important to have. If you have not had the time to do this, then you are able to enroll into a community college to take these subjects, for your benefit.

2. Seek Opportunities: Look for employment opportunities by approaching local government agencies or accounting firms. If there are no auditing positions available, then it is recommended that you consider applying for a clerk position. As you prepare yourself for applying for a position as an Auditor, this will enable you to gain experience working with numbers.

How to become a Certified Auditor:

1. High School Classes: In order to become an Auditor, it is important that you take accounting and algebra classes while you are in high school, as the math skills in these are important to have. If you have not had the time to do this, then you are able to enroll into a community college to take these subjects, for your benefit.

2. Bachelor's Degree: You will need to complete your bachelor's degree at a college/university that you have chosen, but make sure that you have chosen an appropriate one for your field. For your benefit, it is advised that you major in either accounting or any related filed.

3. Intern: You will need to find an internship at any local accounting firm, for at least two years. (This is required for the CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) credentials)

4. Decide on Certificate: You will now need to decide on the certificate you want, based on which one will be more beneficial to you. Certificates include the following:

- CFSA (Certified Financial Services Auditor)

- CIA (Certifications include the Certified Internal Auditor)

- CGAP (Certified Government Auditing Professional)

5. Order Transcripts: As they are required as part of the application process, you can now contact your college and order official transcripts from them. 

6. Character Reference Form: You need to speak to your professor that is aware of your auditing and accounting abilities, and ask him/her to fill out a 'Character Reference Form' for you.

7. Study: For your multi-part certification exam, you are required to study topics in auditing. These may include the following:

- Governance and Risk

- Business Analysis and Management

- How to Conduct an Audit

8. Register for Exam: You will now need to register for the exam that you have chosen.

9. Write the Exam: Now you must write and pass the exam. Each exam is given twice a year.

Helpful Tips:

- Although it is not necessary to be a certified auditor, it is highly recommended, as it plays in your favor. Certified and qualified audiors will be chosen above those who are not certified and qualified.
